Smith D-Contact 72 – Sinking Lure 72 mm / 9.5 g

Produktinformasjon

Kort om modellen

The Smith D-Contact 72 is suitable for those who want a serious river wobbler with a longer casting distance, more noticeable weight, and better contact with the water column than the smaller models offer.

With a length of 72 mm and a weight of 9.5 g, it hits a versatile spot in the series: compact enough for precise guidance, but heavy enough to fish effectively in currents, deeper sections, and more challenging conditions.

This makes the D-Contact 72 a good choice when you want a versatile mid-size option that covers a lot – without the lure becoming too large or losing control in active river fishing.

The D-Contact 72 is designed to quickly reach the desired water depth and provide early contact in the cast. Its heavy body ensures the lure remains stable, even when currents apply pressure, without its action feeling loose or uncontrolled.

In the water, the wobbler exhibits a tight and precise movement. It can withstand higher water pressure than lighter models and maintains its line better when fishing through current seams, channels, and turbulent water.

After short twitches, it doesn't stop completely dead but glides briefly before stabilizing again. This creates a more lifelike transition and can trigger fish that are following closely.

The result is a wobbler that feels controlled during active retrieval, yet still possesses enough individual character to entice fish in challenging waters.

The D-Contact 72 combines fast depth control, stability in current, and a short glide phase after twitch – characteristics that make it effective when conditions become challenging.

BRUK I FELT Når og hvor den passer best

The D-Contact 72 is best suited for medium to large rivers where you need a lure that sinks quickly and maintains good contact through the current. It is particularly effective along current edges, in deeper channels, behind rocks, and in areas where fish are holding low.

Start by allowing the wobbler to sink to the correct depth before retrieving it with short twitches and brief pauses. In strong currents, it is often advantageous to retrieve it tightly and controlled, while calmer sections allow for longer pauses and gentler movements.

Choose the 72 mm when the smallest models are too light, but you still want a compact lure that doesn't appear too dominant. For very shallow water, low water levels, or particularly wary fish, a smaller model might be a better first choice.

For anglers who want to cover river sections effectively with good control, range, and precision, the D-Contact 72 is a very versatile choice.

Bakgrunn og utvikling Historien bak serien

The D-Contact series has been a staple in modern river trout fishing for over 20 years. The concept dates back to 2003 when Smith developed a heavily sinking minnow for anglers who needed more casting distance, faster depth control, and better stability in currents than typical lightweight minnows provided.

What set the series apart was the combination of a slender minnow profile, high intrinsic weight, and carefully positioned tungsten weighting. The result was a compact lure that could cast far, descend quickly, and maintain direction better under the pressure of the current.

D-Contact thus became more than just a lure for steady retrieval. The series was designed for active presentation with small jerks, short pauses, and controlled contact through the water column. When the lure stops or changes direction, the body quickly returns to balance, while maintaining enough life to trigger following fish.

Over the years, D-Contact has evolved into a broad series with multiple sizes, colors, and specialized versions, but the fundamental idea remains the same: a lot of capability in a compact body, made for anglers who need range, depth control, and precision in flowing water.

The D-Contact is based on a simple but strong idea: a compact minnow lure with enough weight and balance to fish effectively where current, depth, and precision matter most.
