The Smith D-Contact 85 is not just a larger version in the D-Contact series. This model was developed for more aggressive fishing in main rivers, where larger fish, stronger currents, and longer distances demand higher performance in casting distance, sink rate, and control.

With an 85 mm body, 14.5 g weight, and fixed tungsten weighting, you get a heavy sinking minnow that cuts efficiently through the air, quickly sinks into the water column, and maintains better contact through the current.

The D-Contact 85 is particularly well-suited when fish are deep, far out in the river, or in strong current seams where lighter lures are lifted too high or lose their working depth. This model is for precise, active fishing for larger salmonids in challenging waters.

The D-Contact 85 is designed to withstand water pressure. Its heavy, slim body remains stable in the current and provides good contact with the lure even when fishing through main currents, current edges, and deeper channels.

With a twitch, it produces quick side-to-side movements and clear flashes. With a harder jerk, it transitions into a broader sliding motion before gathering itself and continuing in a controlled manner. This provides a more aggressive response than with a pure, steady retrieve.

An important characteristic is the short inertia slide phase between movements. After a jerk, the lure momentarily glides at low speed before stabilizing. This creates a natural break in the retrieve and can trigger fish that are following closely behind.

The crane swivel construction in the hook hanger is designed to give the hook better freedom of movement during the fight. This is particularly relevant when dealing with larger fish in currents, where rotation, angle, and pressure often determine whether the fish stays hooked.
